In 2019, the City Council of San Luis Obispo approved the Clean Energy Choice Program. This included measures for new building development to be electrified, greatly reducing fossil fuel contributions to the atmosphere. This policy was strengthened and expanded in 2022 to require all new buildings to be all-electric, carving out exceptions for gas in commercial kitchens.
